1. Cleanse gently every morning

For your morning cleanse, choose a sulfate-free formula that won’t leave your face tight or dry. If you have normal, oily or combo skin, try a gel cleanser. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, stick to a creamier formula. 3. Keep your pores clear

When it’s hot and humid and you’re slathering on sunscreen, skin is more prone to clogs. Don’t pick or squeeze! 4. Refresh with a daily toner

A gentle, daily exfoliating toner promotes cellular turnover, minimizes the look of pores, brightens dull skin, and helps you achieve a smoother skin texture. In the summer, it’s an easy and refreshing step to include in your routine! Just make sure to avoid alcohol-based toners, which can damage skin’s protective barrier. Look for a blend of exfoliating acids, which minimize the look of pores and promote cellular renewal.

5. Add a targeted brightening serum

Even if you’re diligent about wearing sunscreen, dark spots can appear in the summer. UV damage from sun exposure causes hyperpigmentation, but did you know prolonged exposure to high heat can trigger hyperpigmentation as well? 6. Lighten up your moisturizer

In summer’s high heat and humidity, your skin may not need quite as much moisture as it does in the winter. Always start with your serum, then if needed, you can layer your moisturizer on top. 7. Always protect with SPF!

SPF is a non-negotiable all long, but it’s especially important in the summer, when the sun’s rays are stronger. Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every. single. day to prevent UV damage (which causes wrinkles, discoloration, collagen loss and loss of elasticity). UVA rays can penetrate glass and lead to sun damage, so wear sunscreen even when you’ll be indoors. And don’t rely on your makeup for sun protection. Your foundation may have SPF, but most likely you’re not applying enough of it to get full protection.

8. Double cleanse at night
