Why Should You Only Dermaplane Once a Week?

Why Should You Only Dermaplane Once a Week?
Go Back

After your weekly LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning session, you’ll see the results instantly: smooth, fuzz-free skin with a healthy glow. (We like to call it “skinstant gratification.”) And when you see those radiant results, you might be tempted to use your device more than once a week. But here’s the thing: Once a week is the sweet spot for dermaplaning because it’s frequent enough to keep dead skin cells and peach fuzz at bay, and it also gives your skin time to renew itself between sessions. Keep reading to learn why.

What happens to your skin when you dermaplane?

Dermaplaning removes the oldest layer of dead skin cells and built-up debris from your skin’s surface, along with fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). That layer of buildup absorbs light rather than reflecting it, which can give your skin a dull appearance) and it also acts as a physical barrier between your skin and your skincare products. In other words, that layer of buildup can prevent your products from absorbing, and in turn, cause them to be less effective.

LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning gently removes that layer of peach fuzz and dead skin, without causing pain or irritation. Your products can penetrate more effectively, and the high-level sonic vibration also enhances exfoliation, boosts microcirculation, and supports cellular turnover—giving you a healthy-looking glow. You’re not just removing peach fuzz, you’re getting professional-grade exfoliation at home.

Why is once a week the right dermaplaning frequency?

Your skin is constantly renewing itself—shedding old cells at the surface as new ones make their way up. Dermaplaning works with that process by clearing away what’s already finished its job. It isn’t meant to strip away healthy, protective layers that skin still needs.

A weekly schedule gives your skin time to complete that renewal between sessions, so each Flash removes fresh buildup rather than cutting into your skin’s natural defenses. It’s also the frequency LUXE+ was clinically tested at, which means once a week is all it takes to see results.

What happens if you dermaplane too often?

Over-exfoliating is one of the most common ways people damage their skin barrier, the protective outer layer that holds in hydration and keeps irritants out. (Learn more in What Exactly Is Your Skin Barrier?)

Signs you’re overdoing it include:

  1. Tightness: Skin feels stretched or uncomfortable, especially after cleansing.

  1. Redness and sensitivity: Skin looks flushed or reacts more easily than usual.

  1. Stinging: Products you’ve used comfortably for months suddenly burn or tingle.

  1. Flaking and dryness: Skin struggles to hold onto moisture.

  1. Rough texture: Ironically, skin can look and feel less smooth, not more.

The takeaway: Flashing more often won’t give you better results. Consistency matters far more than frequency.

What results can you expect from dermaplaning once a week?

LUXE+ delivers results you can see right away, plus improvements that build with consistent weekly use.

After 1 use

In a consumer panel survey after one use of LUXE+, 100% of participants saw an instant improvement in skin texture, 97% saw brighter, more radiant skin, and 100% said their skincare absorbed faster afterwards.

After 4 weeks

Independent instrumental analysis after 4 weeks of use showed 97% of participants had less visible fine lines and wrinkles, and 94% showed improvement in hyperpigmentation and dark spots. In a consumer panel survey after 4 weeks, 100% said their skin looked younger and more even-toned.

Why do you need a fresh MicroFine Edge™ every time you dermaplane?

Using a fresh MicroFine Edge™ every time you Flash is non-negotiable, because you never want to reintroduce bacteria to your skin. Think of it this way: you wouldn’t eat this Sunday’s dinner off last Sunday’s unwashed plate. Your weekly Flash deserves the same fresh start. The LUXE+ Refill Kit makes it easy, with 4 single-use MicroFine Edges™ and PREFLASH® Cleanser for a full month of weekly Flashing.

How do you dermaplane at home with LUXE+?

Your weekly Flash takes just a few minutes:

  1. Prep: Cleanse with PREFLASH® Cleanser to remove oil and temporarily “tighten” skin, then pat dry. Make sure skin is completely dry before you start.
  2. Flash: Load a fresh MicroFine Edge™ into your LUXE+ and hold it at a 45° angle. Gently hold your skin taut with your other hand and Flash using short, feathery strokes. Avoid your lips, nose and eyelids.
  3. Hydrate: Apply your favorite serum or moisturizer. Skincare sinks in beautifully on freshly Flashed skin. A few precautions: avoid any areas with open sores or active acne, and wait 24 hours before applying products with retinol to freshly exfoliated skin.

What should you do on the days you don’t dermaplane?

Your “days off” are where you protect and extend your results. Botanical Ketoacid Toner gently sweeps away dull, dead skin cells while supporting skin’s natural protective barrier, and it’s safe for sensitive skin. Follow with HYDRAFLASH® Active Cocooning Serum for immediate hydration and barrier support. Finish every morning with sunscreen.

FAQ

Can you dermaplane twice a week?

We don’t recommend it. LUXE+ is designed and clinically tested for once-a-week use. Flashing more often increases your risk of over-exfoliating without improving your results.

What happens if you skip a week?

Nothing to worry about. Dead skin cells and peach fuzz return gradually, so just pick back up with your next weekly Flash.

Will dermaplaning every week make peach fuzz grow back thicker or darker?

No. It’s scientifically proven that LUXE+ does not change the hair follicle or affect hair’s natural growth pattern. Flash weekly and your peach fuzz stays at bay. If you stop, it grows back exactly as it was before: no thicker, no darker, no different.

Can you reuse a MicroFine Edge™?

No. Always use a fresh MicroFine Edge™ every time you Flash to avoid reintroducing bacteria to your skin.

Is weekly dermaplaning safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. LUXE+ is safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and has two sonic speeds (gentle and invigorating) so you can choose what feels best for you.

Is dermaplaning the same as shaving your face?

No. Razors are designed for coarse terminal hair, while LUXE+ is specifically designed for fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) and delicate facial skin. LUXE+ is an exfoliation tool first, with sonic vibration that enhances exfoliation and boosts microcirculation, delivering benefits a razor can’t.

When is the best time to dermaplane before an event?

Plan your weekly Flash shortly before a big day. Removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz creates a smooth canvas for makeup, so foundation glides on like silk. It’s a secret celebrity makeup artists use before red-carpet events.

The bottom line

When it comes to dermaplaning, consistency beats intensity. Flash once a week with LUXE+, use a fresh MicroFine Edge™ every time, and support your skin on your days off. That’s how you get smooth, radiant, fuzz-free skin, week after week.
