The Top 5 Skincare & Makeup Trends Of 2025
Go Back

It’s a new year and with that comes new trends in beauty! Check out our list of skincare and makeup trends to watch out for in 2025…and find out which ones to add to your beauty routine (and which to skip)!

1. High-tech devices (at home!)

At-home skincare tech keeps getting better and better, and this category shows no signs of slowing down. Red light masks and microcurrent devices are two technologies that have exploded in popularity, and both can improve your skin when used consistently. Red light masks work by helping to promote healing and support collagen production, while microcurrent wands deliver low levels of electric current to (temporarily) lift and tighten.

At DERMAFLASH, we love to see it! Our very own CEO of glow, Dara Levy, invented the industry’s first Sonic Dermaplaning device in 2016 and since then she’s led the industry in sonic skincare, with the launch of the new-and-improved LUXE+ in 2022 and DERMAPORE+ in 2023. “The amazing thing about sonic dermaplaning is that it can be done with all other at-home devices, so you see even better results from your skincare routine,” she explains The reason? Sonic dermaplaning gently removes the oldest layer of peach fuzz and dead skin cells, allowing all following skincare products and treatments to work even better.

Try it (of course)!

2. Barrier repair

Barrier repair products started getting super-buzzy last year and the momentum is still going strong. What is a barrier repair cream? In general, they contain occlusive ingredients that prevent moisture from escaping (like shea butter, squalane or petrolatum) plus “humectant” ingredients that attract water to your skin (like glycerin or hyaluronic acid). Most barrier repair creams also include ingredients like ceramides, fatty acid and niacinamide, which all work in different ways to support your skin’s structure.

A barrier repair cream can be a great last step if your skin is feeling tight, dehydrated or irritated. It’s also a good idea to make sure your daily serum contains barrier-boosting ingredients. Think of it as extra “insurance” for a healthy skin barrier! Our Hydraflash Cocooning Serum has niacinamide, glycerin and hyaluronic acid, and layers beautifully under heavier creams.

Try it! A healthy barrier is essential to glowing skin.

3. Exosomes

If you said exo-whats?” we don’t blame you! This new trend hasn’t quite made its way to the mainstream yet. In simple terms, exosomes are “messenger molecules that are sent between cells. As Dr. Mona Gohara told our friends at Elle magazine: “Think of exosomes as little tinyPrime’ packages coming to save the day. Each cell (mostly) in the human body secretes these packages filled with genetic material, lipids, proteins, growth factors, and other tools that activate another to work magic.”

Exosomes are often used after microneedling treatments to promote wound healing, and they’re thought to help with skin regeneration and potentially even hair growth. While exosomes do hold promise, derms caution that it’s still early days. “There are lots of questions and lots of unknowns that have yet to be studied and answered, Dr. Glynis Ablon told the American Academy of Dermtology.

For now, you can skip this trend and stick to peptides—which are proven anti-aging and cell-communicating ingredients. (But stay tuned!)

4. Skinimalism

You might have heard this term already, which started popping up a year or two ago. Long story short, it’s a little bit of a backlash against super-complicated multi-step skincare routines, which were often the cause of irritation and compromised skin barriers. (See trend 2!) Skinimalism involves paring your routine back to the basics: gentle cleanser, serum, moisturizer and SPF—supported by regular exfoliation. It gives your skin everything it needs and saves you time (and $$$).

If your skincare routine is starting to stress you out (rather than being a time for self-care), then a switch to skinimalism might in order!

5. Matte foundation

Before you say thank you, next!” let us explain that this is not the dry, dusty, wrinkle-accentuating foundation we’ve (unfortunately) seen in the past. “According to the runways, matte complexions are making a comeback—but this time, not at the expense of skin hydration,” say the editors at Harper’s Bazaar. New liquid formulas (like Anastasia Second-Skin Matte Foundation) give you a natural-looking matte finish that blurs pores while hydrating your skin, and powder foundations like Laura Geller Double Take Baked Foundation have spherical powders that “flex” with your skin and won’t crack or cake.

No matter what formula you choose, LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning prepares your canvas for flawless results. Why? When your skin is free of peach fuzz and flakes, your foundation applies smoothly and stays cake-free.
