Is Your Sunscreen Clumping, Streaking or Pilling? Sonic Dermaplaning Can Help!

Is Your Sunscreen Clumping, Streaking or Pilling? Sonic Dermaplaning Can Help!
Go Back

You already know that applying SPF every day is essential for healthy skin. And if you’re a regular SPF wearer, you also know that even the best sunscreen formulas can occasionally go on clumpy or streaky or “pill” on your skin. These annoying problems can ruin your makeup application—and even worse, they can leave your skin vulnerable to UV exposure. The good news? Regular sonic dermaplaning can help you achieve a smooth, even application every time. Read on to find out why.

Does Dermaplaning Really Improve SPF Application?

Yes. Dermaplaning removes peach fuzz and dead skin and creates a smooth “canvas” for your SPF. This helps your sunscreen spread more evenly and sink in better—allowing it to form a more complete protective layer on your skin. Ready to take a deeper dive? Let’s look at the specific problems LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning can solve.

How Peach Fuzz + Dead Skin Cells Can Negatively Impact SPF Application

Problem Number 1: Peach Fuzz + Flaky Patches Create a Barrier

SPF requires close contact with your skin to deliver effective UV protection—but fuzz + flakes can create a barrier that prevents your sunscreen from apply properly. This is true whether you're using a chemical or mineral formula. Each type works in a different way, but they’re impacted by what's sitting on top of your skin before you apply:

  • Chemical sunscreens need close contact with the top layers of skin to absorb UV rays effectively. Anything creating distance or a barrier between the formula and your skin (like a layer of fine hair or flaky, dead skin cells) can interfere with that contact.

  • Mineral sunscreens work differently. Instead of absorbing into skin, they sit on the surface and reflect UV rays away. Removing peach fuzz doesn't change how these formulas absorb, but it does significantly improve how uniformly they sit on the skin—which directly affects how well they protect.

Problem Number 2: Peach Fuzz Creates "Micro-Gaps" in Your Sunscreen

When you apply sunscreen to your skin, a portion of the product clings to vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) instead of settling onto your skin where it’s supposed to. The result? Yiny micro-gaps in your protective layer—areas where skin is technically “covered” but not actually shielded from UV exposure.

When peach fuzz is removed, your sunscreen has a clear, direct path to your skin. It spreads more evenly and bonds directly with the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin), which is exactly where that protective film needs to sit.

Problem Number 3: SPF "Pills" or Balls Up on Fuzzy Skin

Ever notice your sunscreen clumping up into annoying little balls as you rub it in? That's called “pilling”—and peach fuzz is often the culprit. This is especially true with mineral sunscreen. These formulas are made with tiny particles of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (or a combination of both) suspended in an emulsion. As you rub the formula onto your face, friction causes those particles to cling to peach fuzz. So instead of spreading smoothly, your pricey mineral sunscreen clumps up—leaving you with a patchy, uneven layer instead of full coverage. Removing the hair removes the friction point, allowing your sunscreen to glide on smoothly instead of clinging and clumping.

How Weekly Sonic Dermaplaning Fits In

DERMAFLASH LUXE+ uses 14K sonic vibrations per minute to gently and precisely remove both peach fuzz and the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin—the two main things standing between your sunscreen and your skin. Dermaplaning consistently once a week with a fresh MicroFine Edge™ keeps your skin smooth and fuzz-free, so your SPF applies evenly—with no clumping, streaking or pilling.

As a bonus, the same smooth, fuzz-free surface that helps sunscreen apply more evenly also helps your serums and moisturizers absorb more effectively, and gives your makeup a smoother canvas to glide onto.

Does dermaplaning help sunscreen apply better?

Yes. Removing peach fuzz and flaky skin allows sunscreen to spread more evenly and make fuller contact with the skin’s surface, which supports more consistent, complete coverage.

How often should I dermaplane for the best SPF results?

DERMAFLASH LUXE+ is designed for use once a week with a fresh MicroFine Edge™ each time, which helps maintain consistently smooth, fuzz-free skin.

Can I apply sunscreen right after dermaplaning?

After dermaplaning, skin can be more sensitive to UV exposure. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure for 48 hours after using LUXE+. You can still go about your normal daily activities, but skip intense sun (like beach days) and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ to protect freshly exfoliated skin.

Does removing peach fuzz affect how it grows back?

No. Dermaplaning does not affect the hair follicle in any way — peach fuzz grows back exactly as it was before.
