Did you just unbox your LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning device and now you’re looking for some tips on how to use it? We’ve got you. We’ll walk you through how to dermaplane at home step by step, and give you easy tips and tricks to make sure you get the perfect Flash every time. Ready? Let’s get started.
Step 1: Prepare Your Skin with PREFLASH Cleanser
For the best results from your sonic dermaplaning session, your skin needs to be clean, dry, and thoroughly free of oil or skincare products. PREFLASH is specially formulated to remove oil and leave your skin feeling “tighter”, which makes it easier to remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells. (Think of it like this: any oil or product on your skin “tamps down” fuzz, making it tougher to remove. When skin is super-clean, peach fuzz stands up straight, making it easy to remove.)
Before you Flash, remove your makeup, cleanse with PREFLASH, and pat your skin dry. “Make sure your skin is bone dry,” says Jorie Fieldman, DERMAFLASH’s Head of Education. “And don’t worry, we’re going to bring all that moisture back to the skin after we’ve Flashed.”
Step 2: Load a Fresh MicroFine Edge™ into Your Device
Always insert a fresh MicroFine Edge every time you Flash. “For safety and hygiene reasons, each Edge is single use,” explains Fieldman. “The reason is that we never want to reintroduce any bacteria back to the skin.”
If there’s an old Edge in your device, press the button to eject it into the trash. Then insert a new Edge right from the tray—just slide it on and it will click into place.
Step 3: Choose Your Sonic Speed
Your LUXE+ Sonic Dermaplaning device has 2 speeds to choose from: Gentle and Invigorating. The high-level sonic waves help your device glide super smoothly over your skin, without pulling or tugging like a cheap razor. The sonic waves also help to increase microcirculation, which gives you an instant glow and supports collagen production long-term.
Press once for Gentle and twice for Invigorating. “If you have more sensitive skin, start with the first speed. You can also use different speeds on different areas of your face to customize your Flash,” Fieldman says.
Step 4: Flash Away Peach Fuzz and Dead Skin
Hold your LUXE device at a 45° angle to your face and use your free hand to hold your skin taut. Use short, feathery strokes to Flash away peach fuzz and dead skin cells. “I like to think of it as similar to sweeping a pile of dust into a dustpan,” Jorie says. “Doing those short strokes ensures you’re removing all of that buildup from the skin.”
You’ll see fuzz and flakes start to build up. You can wipe all the gunk on a cotton pad as you go. You can Flash in any direction—just make sure to avoid your nose, your lips and the delicate skin right around your eyes.
Step 5: Finish with HYDRAFLASH Serum
Now that you’ve removed peach fuzz and dead skin cells from your skin’s surface, your skincare products will penetrate more effectively. “Dead skin cells and vellus hair can act like a barrier that prevents your skincare from sinking in—and that means it can’t do its job effectively,” explains Fieldman. “When you remove that layer of buildup, your skincare sinks in beautifully. There’s nothing like that freshly Flashed glow.”
Pro tip: HYDRAFLASH Active Cocooning Serum is the perfect PostFlash companion. Clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, and radiance, it delivers deep hydration and an instant dewy glow.
People Also Ask
Is sonic dermaplaning better than using a face razor?
Yes. The key difference is the patented Sonic Edge™ Technology: 14,000 sonic vibrations per minute allow the blade to glide effortlessly across skin, removing peach fuzz and dead skin cells more thoroughly and with far less risk of nicks, cuts, or irritation. Standard face razors have no sonic mechanism, no proprietary safety cage, and no clinical backing. LUXE+ is also clinically proven to improve skin tone and texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and boost skincare absorption—results you simply can’t get from a disposable razor. It’s recommended by estheticians and dermatologists as a safe, gentle, effective way to exfoliate and remove peach fuzz.
Will my hair grow back thicker after dermaplaning?
No. This is one of the most common dermaplaning myths. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin. Because vellus hair is not the same as terminal hair (the thicker, pigmented hair that grows from deeper follicles), removing it does not affect the hair’s growth rate, thickness, or color. Your peach fuzz will grow back exactly as it was before—fine, soft, and light. It’s scientifically proven that hair will NOT grow back thicker or faster after use.
How often should I dermaplane at home?
You only need to dermaplane with LUXE+ once a week to keep your skin fuzz-free and enjoy clinically proven anti-aging benefits. In an independent clinical test, 97% of users had less visible fine lines + wrinkles and 94% had reduced appearance of dark spots after 1 month of weekly use.
Can I use PREFLASH every day?
No. PREFLASH is designed to work synergistically with your LUXE+ dermaplaning device. It thoroughly removes oil, so using it every day would be too drying. However, using it once per week will not dry your skin or damage your skin barrier. PREFLASH uses safe, gentle actives including Witch Hazel Water, Salicylic Acid, Willow Bark Extract, Niacinamide, and Papaya Enzyme to cleanse and prep skin without disrupting its protective barrier.
